Mission Statement Mentaur Learning Center will become a viable source of supplemental education services to the community by providing students in the area with the tools they need to succeed in school, prepare for post-secondary educational opportunities, and become responsible, contributing members of their society in the future.
What’s in a Name? The name Mentaur derived from two sources: an owl known as a “Mentaur Scops,” which means “wise and trusted counselor/teacher.” Associating owls with wisdom dates back at least as far as Ancient Greece where Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom, had the owl as her symbol. An owl is also Harry Potter’s choice!
Tutors All of the tutors at Mentaur Learning Center are professional educators and/or experts in their fields, including many with their Master’s degrees. All of them enjoy working with students and especially appreciate the opportunity to be more creative and flexible in their approaches to instruction than is possible in a classroom setting. We have instructors ranging from pre-kindergarten through high school and undergraduate students, covering all subject areas.
Employment Opportunities
Mentaur Learning is always seeking tutors for a wide variety of subjects, test preparation, workshops and summer programs. Owner/Director Ginny Wirzbicki is the owner and director of Mentaur Learning Center. With a background in marketing, education, financial services, and the arts, Ginny felt that a learning center would be a perfect match to her skills and enable her to give back to the community in a meaningful way. During her career in marketing and advertising, she satisfied her desire to educate by teaching dance for many years, but still wanted to earn her degree and teach English. After moving to North Carolina in 1992, she started working on obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree and graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2004 as a true 49er (at the age of 49!). She was a substitute teacher and 10th grade English instructor, as well as a team leader and reader/evaluator with Measurement Inc. and Educational Testing Service (administer the SAT) scoring End-of-Grade Test essays for various states throughout the nation. Her experience working with both students and the companies that administer these tests affords her a unique ability to assist students with the skills needed to excel on standardized tests.
