We tell them to pick someone who is part of their life, not a celebrity or super star. It could be a teacher, a friend, a friend’s parent, a cousin – anyone who inspires them. The individual doesn’t have to know that she has been chosen for this position; the point is to improve by emulating someone who can provide a sort of benchmark. The student shouldn’t get upset if he doesn’t always feel like he is “measuring up.” The point is to feel good about trying, knowing that over time, it will help him succeed.
